Lamar Scholarships

Hope Scholarships - Lamar High School Alumni Association

For the past four years the Lamar Alumni Association has given Hope Scholarships to deserving Lamar Students. We have attached our recently completed a brochure showing the present scholarship recipients.

These Hope Scholarships give $1,000 per year for four years to students who are planning to attend a Texas public university. The students who qualify might not otherwise qualify for larger scholarships. They are hard working students who have a strong desire for a higher education. Most must work while attending high school, but are willing to put in the effort to realize their dreams. We want to see these students living up to their potential and becoming the next generation of productive citizens.

Unfortunately, we presently have more students who qualify for these scholarships than we have scholarships available, due to limited funds. You can help these aspiring students by sending a contribution to the Lamar High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program.

You may send your contribution to:

If you have any questions, 'ideas, or would like to work with the Scholarship Committee, please call 713-629-1580 (David Redford-Lamar Class of 1958). We thank you for your support.

55th Reunion Subcommittee

Our Lamar 55th Reunion Hotel Subcommittee met April 2 to review the class requirements for the reunion hotel. Pictured left to right are Portia Suddreath Sweet, Pat Roten Craven, and Marynelle Davis Stamper. Houston convention hotels get booked early so we must commit to a hotel for the 2011 reunion prior to July 2009. The subcommittee has narrowed the hotel selection down to a few candidates and is now checking availability for April 2011 and October 2011. Their recommendations will be presented to the full reunion committee later this month. Marynelle is passing the committee chairman baton to Pat since Marynelle is leaving this week for a four month driving tour from Houston to Alaska, and negotiations with hotel management will be underway while Marynelle is gone.

If you have any comments or suggestions for the reunion subcommittee you can place them on this newsletter by clicking the "comments" just below this story.
