Herbert Haschke, Jr.

December 9, 1938 ~ October 9, 2023 84 Years Old

Herbert (Herbie) P. Haschke, Jr. went to heaven October 9. 2023 following a short illness.  He was born to Herbert and Olga Haschke in Houston, Texas December 9, 1938.  He graduated From Lamar High School, Houston. He attended The University of Texas, receiving a BBA Degree (Accounting) and a Law Degree from The University of Texas School of Law.  He practiced law with Price Waterhouse for 25 years before retiring in 1982.  He had a private law practice in Tulsa where he also was extremely busy with volunteer projects.  He opened a practice focusing on Estate Planning upon moving to Clifton including pro bono legal advice to clients. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clifton.

He is survived by son, Paul (Tracy) Haschke, and two grandchildren, Morgan and Beckman; two sisters, Karen Harrison, Clifton and Janis (Joe) Gibson, Lead Hill, Arkansas; nephews, Kevin Harrison, Austin, Buck Gibson, Searcy, AR and Jesse Gibson, Little Rock, AR.  He also has many loving and admiring cousins who will always treasure his wit, love, and hearty laugh.

Herb loved football and all competitive sports, especially his beloved Texas Longhorns.  He enjoyed fishing of all varieties, treasuring his time with family at Ferndale Fishing Club close to Pittsburgh, Texas.  He enjoyed all kinds of events where he could meet and visit with others, saying, “I can talk to the wall.”  He became an ardent fan of the Clifton Cub Athletics, loudly coaching from the sidelines.  Herb enjoyed life to the fullest with gusto and optimism.  His laugh could be heard from any point around him.  He was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 11th at 1:00PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church; 911 W 3rd St.; Clifton, TX 76634.

Barbara Billingsley Mitchell, 83 of Lake Hills, Texas passed from this life
on November 30,2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born March 16,1938 in
McAllen, Texas to Samuel Jesse and Mary Goodwin Billingsley.

Barbara "Babs" Mitchell grew up in Houston Texas and graduated from Lamar
High School. She continued her academic career at Baylor University on a
debate scholarship. Graduating from Baylor with a teaching degree, Babs
taught the majority of her teaching career at the San Antonio Northeast
School District. She also taught several years in Lindale and Winona, Texas.
She married Carl Eugene Mitchell on September 9, 1959.  Bab's was known her
quick wit and contagious laughter. She lived her life with deep faith in God
and was always quick to share her faith with others. Raising two daughters,
Cindy and Wendy, she was sure to instill in them a great independence and
individuality. She would always remind them that "you can do anything you
put your mind to." As she did with her girls, she always encouraged her
students intellectually and with great motivation. She would remind them
that they were all gifts and were gifted. Babs faced many challenges and
trails in life but she persevered through faith and fierce grit.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Samuel Jesse and Mary Goodwin
Billingsley; sister, Sydney Billingsley Frederickson and husband, Carl
Eugene Mitchell.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include daughters, Cindy Mitchell
Maddox and husband, Gary of Lake Hills, Texas and Wendy Mitchell Cuyler and
husband, Chris of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Beau Maddox, Amber Maddox
Scholz, Aaron Maddox, Evan Cuyler, Audrey Cuyler, Chase Cuyler and great
grandchildren, Shyanne Maddox, Bryson Scholz, Maddox Scholz and Royi Cuyler.

Jeanine Elizabeth Harris Oglesby, was reunited with her loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Austin, Texas. She was born on November 8, 1937 in Houston, Texas to Kenneth Harris and Loretta Newman Harris.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James Baker Oglesby and her three children, Connye & husband, Riley Joe Sanders; Caye Lynn & husband, Michael Harbers; Larry Oglesby & wife, Laurie. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Jeanine was a founding member of Trinity Anglican Church in Lago Vista, Texas. She treasured the many friends she made through various activities at the church.

Jeanine will forever be remembered for her loving, kind, generous soul and will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her

There will be a visitation on Thursday, Feb 4, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd. (F.M. 1431), Cedar Park, Texas.

Suzie Robertson Snoddy 1938-2023

Esther Sue (Suzie) Robertson Snoddy

 

Esther Sue (Suzie) Robertson Snoddy, 84, died Thursday September 7, 2023. She was born on November 22, 1938, in Houston, Texas to Robert and Ruth Robertson. She attended Lamar High School and graduated from the University of Texas in 1960.

The years she worked as Director of the Museum of Southern History and assisting with the other HBU Museums were truly a blessing in her life. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, The Junior League of Houston, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Houston Baptist University Guild. She enjoyed her numerous and diverse volunteer positions with these organizations. Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study brought her to a depth and dimension that would give her life lasting purpose.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Jimmy, her parents, brother Robbie Robertson, sister and brother-in-law Sara Nan and Tony Peterson, nephew Cal Allen and step grandson Hayden McDonald. She is survived by son Jim Snoddy and his wife Andrea, step grandson John D’Angelo, son Walter Snoddy and his wife Susie, granddaughters Meredith and Madeline Snoddy, step granddaughter Maggie McDonald, sister Carrie Robertson Allen and sister-in-law Irene Robertson Franz, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wants to thank Suzie’s caregivers at The Legacy at Longmeadow, Sterling Oaks Rehabilitation and Houston Hospice for their dedicated, professional, and loving care.

Ann Harder

January 19, 1938 - July 18, 2023

Ann Harder passed away on July 18, 2023, at the age of 85. Ann was born to Ray Edward Harder, Sr. and Ruth Edra Paggi Harder in Beaumont, TX, on January 19, 1938.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Ray Edward Harder, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Edra Bogucki.

Ann attended Lamar State College and wore many hats during her lifetime. The Paggi name has been well-known in the Beaumont area for generations as her grandfather, Ed was involved in Spindletop and founded the YMBL in 1917.

Ann Harder proudly held the title “President” of “P& H Farms of Texas, Inc,”.

Ann was a very prominent figure in Beaumont and was involved in and supported the American Rose Society, Beaumont Botanical Gardens, American Cancer Society, Houston Public Media as well as many other philanthropic causes.

Ann Harder was a passionate, long-time supporter of Houston PBS, part of Houston Public Media at the University of Houston. Her favorite programs were Masterpiece and Nature. During the Downton Abbey years Ann was honored at a Downton-themed high tea held at the Beaumont Botanical Gardens. To celebrate her 80th birthday Masterpiece executive producer, Rebecca Eaton, was flown in by Houston Public Media for a special dinner in Ann’s honor. Ann’s love of PBS was rooted in her intellectual curiosity and appreciation for the arts. She was dearly loved, and well known at Houston PBS for her strong spirit, sense of humor, and big heart. They have fond memories of trips to see Ann’s rose garden, lunch and feeding the ducks before heading back to Houston. The station will be running tribute messages in her honor.

In her free time, Ann enjoyed gardening, nurturing her plants, and creating beautiful outdoor spaces, but most importantly helping people. She was an amazing woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and loved ones.

Her funeral will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

Patty Sparling Andrews

 

Patricia "Patty" Sparling Andrews 1938-2023

 

Memorial services for Patricia "Patty" Sparling Andrews, 84, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Marvin Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Baker and Rev. Randy Hageman officiating. A light luncheon reception will follow in Pirtle Hall. A family burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Andrews passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 in Houston. She was born October 9, 1938 in Houston to Vera Mosely Sparling and Rev. John Perry Sparling. Patty spent her life in service to others, whether in leadership or behind the scenes, and in doing so has left us a beautiful legacy of selflessness and conscientiousness. She was instrumental in all the following: Marvin Methodist Church, Marvin Methodist Women, Wonderful Wednesday at St. Paul Methodist Church, Historic Preservation of Tyler, Junior League of Tyler, Camp Fire Girls, PTA, Lon Morris Methodist College Board of Directors, Mission Week, and much more, in addition to being a deeply devoted wife and mother. She was a prolific and sought-after teacher and leader of the Christian faith, even called "Susanna" (after Susanna Wesley) by many who were inspired by her teachings. She valued beauty and history, and helped lead efforts to save and recognize Tyler's landmarks, including the brick streets and helping spearhead efforts to research and establish historic landmark status for Marvin Methodist, the oldest church in Smith County. She cared about the well-being of her family, always available with a listening ear, wise counsel, unconditional acceptance and encouragement. She organized annual extended-family gatherings for more than 30 years at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center to ensure ongoing closeness, fun, and care of one another.

 

She graduated from Lamar High School and Rice Institute (now Rice University). She married fellow Rice graduate Duane Andrews on June 21, 1962, and taught school to support them during his medical school years. She so valued the importance of his work that she adapted her life to allow him the intensity of a dedicated surgeon's life, raising their daughters and sacrificing time with him. Together, they have sacrificially given of their time, talents and treasure to support countless endeavors that improve quality of life, most significantly St. Paul's Children's Services, Lakeview, and Marvin.

 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother Jon Sparling. She is survived by her loving family including her husband Dr. Duane Andrews, daughters Susan Andrews Hageman (Randy) and Allison Andrews (Michael Adams); grandchildren Kathryn Hageman Holmes (Patrick), Caroline Thompson, Andrew Thompson (fiance Sarah Grace Engel), and William Hageman; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Ella Holmes; sister-in-law Helena Underwood Sparling; nephews and niece Jon Sparling (Sarah), William Sparling (Elizabeth), David Sparling, and Sarah Sparling; great nieces and nephew Perry, Clara, George and Mary Sparling; and step-siblings Margaret Thomas and Phillip Thomas.

 

Pallbearers will be Andrew Thompson, William Hageman, Jon Sparling, William Sparling, David Sparling, Michael Adams, and Patrick Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pairs and Parents Sunday School Class, Wonderful Wednesdays/St. Paul Church, and Marvin Methodist Women. Lucy Zarr Foyt

September 24, 1938 – April 5, 2023

 

Lucy Foyt, wife of A.J. Foyt, passed away in a Houston hospital after a brief illness. She was 84.

Lucy had a special appreciation for life, always embracing new experiences, people, and challenges. There was never a dull moment being married to the auto racing legend; for nearly 68 years, Lucy was his rock, keeping him grounded as he ascended to superstardom in motorsports. Her steadfast support and amazing grace under pressure throughout A.J.’s career and post-career, which was marked by life-threatening injuries on several occasions, made it possible for him to stage the remarkable comebacks that added to his legendary status.

Houston was always home to Lucy, having been born in 1938 to beloved parents, Dr. L. Lynn Zarr and Elizabeth Zarr, and raised in River Oaks, a prominent enclave of the nation’s fourth largest city. During her time at Lamar High School, Lucy met Foyt and the two married in 1955, further laying their roots in the Houston community. Together, they raised three children, A.J. Foyt III, Terry and Jerry. Later on, they adopted their grandson Larry who is president of A.J. Foyt Enterprises, the Indy car racing team Foyt started in late 1965.

Always seen as beautiful and gracious, Lucy bonded three generations of the Foyt family, having four children, eight grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren who adored her. She was able to watch them grow to achieve success, marry for love, and raise children, many of which are named after her with the most recent being Larry’s daughter Lucy who was born in January.

With a passion for culture, arts, and global travel, Lucy shared a broadened perspective and open mind about the world that motivated and inspired adventure to those around her. That legacy will live on through her family and influence more generations of Foyt's to come.
