Tevis Grinstead 1938-2025

Samuel Tevis Grinstead passed away on Saturday, the 9th of August. He was 86 years old.

 

Tevis was born in Houston on September 23, 1938, the son of William Carter Grinstead, Sr and Lee Menefee Tevis.

Tevis graduated from the University of Texas in Plan II in 1960 and from the University of Texas Law School in 1963. He clerked for a federal circuit judge for one year then went to work in Houston for Vinson & Elkins. He became a partner at V&E and practiced corporate finance and merger and acquisition law for 30 years.

 

After retiring Tevis and his wife Marilee began spending more time in their home in Wimberley and Tevis became involved in Wimberley politics. He worked for the incorporation of Wimberley and served on various boards and commissions including being chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. He also became a member of the Board of Directors of The Friends of Blue Hole and worked on a committee to draft the park master plan.

 

Tevis was preceded in death by his wife Marilee Wood and stepson Geoffrey Wood. Tevis is survived by his daughter Michele Griffiths and her husband Richard Griffiths, son, William Grinstead, stepson, Stephen Wood and his wife Ximena Wood, and grandchildren, Auden Griffiths, Lulu Griffiths and Isabel Wood.
