Dan Morse

Dan Morse, a native of Houston, Texas, passed away at the age of 85 while recovering from an intestinal surgery. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd., Houston, TX 77056.
Dan was in the first graduating class of Bellaire High School in 1956 where he was captain of the basketball team his senior year. He attended Texas Tech University and the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Dan owned Beechnut Professional Pharmacy where he worked for 28 years until he retired.
The game of bridge was a lifelong hobby for Dan. He served in many local and national leadership roles within the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), including being President in 2008 and on the National Board of Directors for 24 years. Dan also served on the World Bridge Federation (WBF) Executive Council for 14 years. As a player, Dan was ranked as ACBL Grand Life Master, WBF Open Life Master and Senior Life Master, and won several national and world championship titles, including all four major team events. He represented the USA in a number of world championships for which he helped to win four gold and three silver medals. Dan was one of the most accomplished, well-known, and respected bridge players in North America. He was extremely passionate about bridge and always strived to promote the game by mentoring others.
Dan met his wife, Joan, of 45 years at the bridge tables in Houston. They married in 1969 and had their only child Julie in 1971. They shared an exciting life together traveling the world playing bridge and backgammon. Dan also met his wife, Barbara, within the bridge world. They married in 2017 and enjoyed a wonderful retirement cruising around the world, spending time with family, and traveling for bridge tournaments.
Dan will be remembered fondly by his wife Barbara, daughter Julie, grandchildren Makena and Jonah, brother and sister-in-law George and Mary Morse, nephews Robert and William Morse, stepdaughter and son-in-law Diane and Viet Truong, cousins, and numerous bridge friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, brother Jim, sister Betty, and parents Bob and Sue Morse.
