Joanne Eaker Lane


Joanne Eaker Lane  1938-2017
 
Joanne Eaker Lane died May 2, 2017 at the age of 78. She was born in Kansas and grew up in New Jersey until her father took a position teaching English Literature at the University of Houston. Joanne graduated from Lamar High School and Rice University, cum laude, with a B.A. in history. She taught at Lanier Junior High, 1960-1961. She married Don Lane, a geologist who earned his PhD. from Rice where they met. After they wed, they moved to Lafayette, La, Pittsburgh, Pa, Casper, Wy, Denver, Co, and Laramie, Wy. Then they returned to Houston in 1973 when Don took a new job as a petroleum geologist.
For twenty years, Joanne taught history for SBISD, at Westchester Senior High and Spring Woods Senior High. After retiring she became a docent at Bayou Bend, was active in West Harris County AAUW, Point/Counterpoint, and was an active member at the First Congregational Church.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald Wilson Lane, their three children, Marjorie and husband Mark Vetter of Montana, Jennifer and husband John Hamlin of Austin, Chris Lane of Houston, three grandsons, Tucker, Will, and Jack Hamlin, and her brother John Eaker and his wife Susan.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday May 6th at First Congregational Church, 10840 Beinhorn Rd.  In lieu of flowers please donate to: Bayou Bend Fund by contacting Bradley Houston at bhouston@mfah.org or the charity of your choice .
