Margaret "Margo" Meynier Loeffler

Margaret "Margo" Meynier Loeffler
1938-2018
Margo Loeffler, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Thursday, the 25th January 2018, after a courageous three-year battle with heart disease and cancer.
Margo was born on the 21st of March 1938, in Houston, to Dr. Maurice Joseph Meynier, Jr., and Charlotte Mosle Meynier. She attended Lamar High School in Houston where she made many lifelong friends, including her "birthday group" who have gathered for a lunch to celebrate each other's birthdays for over sixty years. After high school, she enrolled in and attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts for two years before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 1960 and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She met her future husband, James Joseph Loeffler, on a set-up for a debutante party and they later married in 1962 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Houston. They had two children, Charlotte Bowe Loeffler (Hickey) and James Joseph Loeffler, Jr.
Margo was an avid equestrian whether it was riding the Salt Grass Trail in 1955 with a group of friends or participating in western riding or dressage while in high school. Her love of animals extended to dogs, whose company she enjoyed her entire life-from her childhood dog Dandy, the German Shepherd, up until her beloved Corgi named Sherlock who survives her.
She was also an enthusiastic traveler. She caught "the travel bug" early from her parents; and the list of places she went with family, friends, and even one-on-one trips with grandchildren would exhaust this space. Her six grandchildren cherished their time with her on these excursions as well as the simple times with her, like coming over for breakfast for her famous French toast. They loved, as did all her family and friends, "Nana" dearly.
Margo was a member of the Houston Country Club as well as the Junior League, The River Oaks Blossom Club, The Brown Thumb Garden Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a long time parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years James Loeffler, her brother Maurice Joseph Meynier III and her infant son Mark Charles Loeffler, she is survived by daughter Charlotte Loeffler Hickey and her husband Patrick, son James Loeffler, Jr. and his wife Stephanie; and grandchildren Patrick Hickey, Caroline Hickey Strake and her husband Brad Strake, Kate Hickey, James Hickey, Madeline Loeffler, and Henry Loeffler.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to her wonderful caregivers who helped Margo through these last years, namely Kimberly Jackson, Denise Lane, Corliss Ambo, Tanzanual Roberts, Terri Simon, Paulette Robinson, and Ruby Cowan.
The memorial service will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 31st of January, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where Rev. Leon Streider is to celebrate, with a reception following.
Prior to the service the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Food Bank of Houston, 535 Portwall St., Houston, TX, 77029; or to the charity of one's choice.

Rita Browning Mayfield

MAYFIELD, Rita Age 79, of Austin, passed away June 23, 2017. Service July 1, 11 a.m. at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, Austin. Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar Funeral Home, Austin, TX.

We are going to miss Rita Browning Mayfield – an amazing and devoted wife, loving mother, gentle Gram, trusted friend, mentor by example to many, a woman of profound faith who when needed was willingly there with her smile, graciousness and sensitivity to do what she could to meet the needs of others. Her physical heart stopped its beating on June 23, 2017 but the heart of her being continues to echo through the lives of only God knows how many. Who she was and what she had to offer helped bring out the best in children with special needs and youth with whom she had worked when young. Among adults, her gentle leadership helped bring out the best in individuals and groups in the congregations where her husband was pastor. Rita was a skilled seamstress and she made beautiful quilts. She enjoyed conversation and listened with compassion and good humor. She abhorred violence and found no entertainment value in violence in movies or on TV. (Because she fell in love with the characters, NCIS was a mild exception.) Striving toward a life of compassion and cooperation that helps make life better for all was for her of higher value than competitive, self-centered striving. Her daily living consistently reflected tenderness and strength rooted in the faith and hope and love that were at the core of her being.

Rita (her unused first name is Sylvia) was born in Houston, Texas, May 2, 1938, the second of three children born to Ralph and Betty Browning. Her older brother is Baron (Bud) Browning and with his wife Carol lives in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Her younger brother, Richard Browning, preceded her in death and his wife Jeannie continues to reside in Arlington, Texas.

Rita married James L (Jim) Mayfield in 1961. He continues to live in Austin, as does their son Robert. Their daughter Betty lives in Amissville, Virginia. with her husband Phil Gibbons. Robert's two teenage daughters, Isabel (a college freshman) and Giovanna (a high school senior) live in Austin. Betty's twin daughters, Sara and LiAnna are in high school and Betty's oldest daughter Katelynn is a Marine.  Jim's two sisters and their husbands have been additional sisters and brothers whom Rita dearly loved. Sue and Don Winsor live in George West, Texas. Sarah Franklin continues to live in Lake Kiowa, Texas, following the death of her husband George. The children and grandchildren of her brothers' families and of the families of Jim's sisters have each had a special place in Rita's heart.

A memorial service will be at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin, TX (2601 Exposition Blvd.) Saturday, July 1 at 11 am with reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in her memory to Tarrytown United Methodist Church or some other charity.

Patricia Ann Ivy Cauley, Class of Lamar '55

Patricia Ann Ivy Cauley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend peacefully passed away September 14, 2017 in Pensacola, FL. Pat was born August 21, 1937 in Liberty, TX to Benjamin A. Ivy and Emma Belle Dawson Ivy.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jim Cauley, and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Jim Cauley Jr. and wife Judy of Denver, CO, Kyle Cauley and wife Nancy of Beach City, and Todd Cauley and wife Tiffany of Montgomery; her grandchildren, Kelsey Cauley and Wes Cauley of Beach City and Connor Cauley and Rachel Cauley of Denver, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Pat graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX in 1955. She then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Rice University in 1959. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life, Jim Cauley. She began her career in education while living in Arlington, VA. In 1962, she and Jim returned to Houston and started their family. They settled in Baytown in the summer of 1963 and resided there for the remainder of their lives. In 1978 Pat resumed her teaching career at Robert E. Lee High School where she taught English for 20 years.

Pat's active life focused on family, church, friends, community, school and sports. While teaching and raising her children, she spent countless hours helping others through volunteer work. Pat has been an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Baytown for over 50 years. She has taught youth and adult Sunday School classes, began a young adult group called "The Connectors", and served in leadership roles on countless committees.

Pat was a valued member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Psi Chapter since 1980 and served as chapter president for the 1988-1990 biennium. She received the Chapter Achievement Award in 2007 and was serving as chair of the Membership Committee at the time of her death. Pat's many years of service included serving on the Lee College Board of Regents, memberships in the Service League of Baytown, Baytown Junior Forum, and the Goose Creek Country Club Ladies Association. Later in life she established the literacy technology program at Sterling Municipal Library, served on Long Range Planning Committees for GCCISD, The City of Baytown and St. Mark's UMC. Pat also volunteered at The Promise Center of Baytown and was still an active member of the Lakewood Garden Club.

One of Pat's favorite pastimes was spending quality time with family and friends at the beach. She was always eager to share her beach "experience" with anyone who wanted to visit. She and Jim enjoyed beach living for 35 years at their second home on Bolivar Peninsula, which she missed terribly after Hurricane Ike destroyed in 2008.

Pat was "my bride" to her husband, “Mom" to her sons, "Da" to her grandchildren, "Mrs. C" to her students, and a mentor, dreamer, listener, caregiver, counselor and leader to her treasured friends. Her positive spirit and upbeat outlook were an inspiration to her family, and all of her encouragement and support played a vital role in helping others achieve their goals. Pat enjoyed dinner group, playing bridge, serving time at church, and mostly she cherished her time with her family and friends. Her kind, sweet manner will be missed, as well as her outstanding ability to communicate effectively with people in her gracious way.

A visitation will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 21 from 5:00 to 7:00. A graveside service will be at Sterling-White Cemetery on Friday, September 22 at 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will follow at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 North Main, Baytown, Texas 77521 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
