Patricia Ann Ivy Cauley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother,
and friend peacefully passed away September 14, 2017 in Pensacola, FL. Pat was
born August 21, 1937 in Liberty, TX to Benjamin A. Ivy and Emma Belle Dawson
Ivy.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jim
Cauley, and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Jim Cauley Jr. and wife
Judy of Denver, CO, Kyle Cauley and wife Nancy of Beach City, and Todd Cauley
and wife Tiffany of Montgomery; her grandchildren, Kelsey Cauley and Wes Cauley
of Beach City and Connor Cauley and Rachel Cauley of Denver, CO; as well as
many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Pat graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX in 1955.
She then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Rice
University in 1959. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life,
Jim Cauley. She began her career in education while living in Arlington, VA. In
1962, she and Jim returned to Houston and started their family. They settled in
Baytown in the summer of 1963 and resided there for the remainder of their
lives. In 1978 Pat resumed her teaching career at Robert E. Lee High School
where she taught English for 20 years.
Pat's active life focused on family, church, friends,
community, school and sports. While teaching and raising her children, she
spent countless hours helping others through volunteer work. Pat has been an
active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Baytown for over 50
years. She has taught youth and adult Sunday School classes, began a young
adult group called "The Connectors", and served in leadership roles
on countless committees.
Pat was a valued member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Psi
Chapter since 1980 and served as chapter president for the 1988-1990 biennium.
She received the Chapter Achievement Award in 2007 and was serving as chair of
the Membership Committee at the time of her death. Pat's many years of service
included serving on the Lee College Board of Regents, memberships in the
Service League of Baytown, Baytown Junior Forum, and the Goose Creek Country
Club Ladies Association. Later in life she established the literacy technology
program at Sterling Municipal Library, served on Long Range Planning Committees
for GCCISD, The City of Baytown and St. Mark's UMC. Pat also volunteered at The
Promise Center of Baytown and was still an active member of the Lakewood Garden
Club.
One of Pat's favorite pastimes was spending quality time
with family and friends at the beach. She was always eager to share her beach
"experience" with anyone who wanted to visit. She and Jim enjoyed
beach living for 35 years at their second home on Bolivar Peninsula, which she
missed terribly after Hurricane Ike destroyed in 2008.
Pat was "my bride" to her husband, “Mom" to
her sons, "Da" to her grandchildren, "Mrs. C" to her
students, and a mentor, dreamer, listener, caregiver, counselor and leader to
her treasured friends. Her positive spirit and upbeat outlook were an
inspiration to her family, and all of her encouragement and support played a
vital role in helping others achieve their goals. Pat enjoyed dinner group,
playing bridge, serving time at church, and mostly she cherished her time with
her family and friends. Her kind, sweet manner will be missed, as well as her
outstanding ability to communicate effectively with people in her gracious way.
A visitation will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist
Church on Thursday, September 21 from 5:00 to 7:00. A graveside service will be
at Sterling-White Cemetery on Friday, September 22 at 9:30 a.m. The memorial
service will follow at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 North Main,
Baytown, Texas 77521 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Peter Miller officiating.
Her family would like to acknowledge a sincere appreciation
to the wonderful health care professionals at Sacred Heart Hospital in
Pensacola, FL for their kind and compassionate care.
