1938 -2024

 

Jean Coburn Burns was born to Luther and Lucile Coburn on June 27, 1938, In Syracuse, NY. She spent the World War II years living in Bremerton, WA and Seattle, WA while her father worked for the Navy at the Bremerton Navy Yard. She liked to say she got to Texas as soon as she could. They moved to Bellaire, TX in 1947 and she was lucky enough to grow up there. She graduated from Lamar High School and Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. Jean went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2024.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Elbert and his wife Mary, and Steven Elbert, two stepchildren, Jennifer Blume and her husband Dan, Brian Burns and his wife Karen, six grandchildren, Hannah Blume, Jonathan Elbert, Thomas Burns, Vincent Burns, Clinton Blume and wife Joanna, Lauren Blume and husband Rich Saunders and one great granddaughter Lila Saunders.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Burns, her parents Luther and Lucile Coburn, her brother and sister-in-law Bob and Patsy Coburn.

She taught elementary school for thirty years, 25 of those years in Angleton, TX, where she enjoyed teaching both kindergarten and second grade. After she retired from teaching, she owned a successful small business with her husband, Harold, selling satellite dishes all over Montgomery County and beyond.

Both Jean and Harold enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing around the United States and beyond where they were able to take a number of wonderful trips.

Jean was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Willis. She enjoyed teaching in the Children's Sunday School, working on various outreach projects, and helping at the TLC Food Pantry. The wonderful friends she made at church and the Food Pantry, helped her get through the challenges that life sent her way.

Jean's Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Methodist Church in Willis on August 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
